Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover

I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review from the publisher via NetGalley.

What can I say…I’m a Colleen Hoover fan. She’s an extremely talented writer and she knows when to push but also when it’s too much. She’s also very talented at writing from both female and male perspective.

Dean Holder is a pretty deep character and reading Losing Hope showed how intense he really was. Even though it was the same story it was definitely still different.  I loved reading from Holder’s perspective of how he felt about Hope’s tragic past and then how he dealt with the loss of his twin sister.

I completely and totally recommend it and can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.

Sometimes in life, in order to move forward you must face the past…#1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover held readers spellbound with her novel Hopeless, the story of what happened when a troubled girl named Sky encountered a long-lost childhood friend, Dean Holder. With Holder’s help, Sky uncovered shocking family secrets and came to terms with memories and emotions that had left deep scars.

Hopeless was Sky’s story. Now, in Losing Hope, we finally learn the truth about Dean Holder.

Haunted by the little girl he couldn’t save from imminent danger, Holder’s life has been overshadowed by feelings of guilt and remorse. He has never stopped searching for her, believing that finding her would bring him the peace he needs to move on. However, Holder could not have anticipated that he would be faced with even greater pain the moment they reconnect.

In Losing Hope, Holder reveals the way in which the events of Sky’s youth affected him and his family, leading him to seek his own redemption in the act of saving her. But it is only in loving Sky that he can finally begin to heal himself.

He Belongs to Me by Theresa Rizzo

I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This story was a bit heartbreaking for me.  Catherine shows a lot of determination when she has to fight for her young son. I was really puzzled why anyone would give up their child to go to school so far away.  As a mother of 4 I can’t imagine how someone could move so far away from their child – heartbroken over the loss of his twin or not.  The author does a great job of explaining most of my lingering questions as the book progresses.  We all know how I love twist and turn stories so this was good for me.

A decent book I’d recommend.

Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?

Written by Thompson Square and Travis Thrasher.  Inspired by the hit song, Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?

I received an ARC copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I first saw this title on NetGalley before I saw who wrote it I was thinking, aw someone ripped off the title of Thompson Square’s song, lol.  Then I realized they wrote the book and I had to read it.  I have loved the song since I first heard it.

If you’ve never heard of Thompson Square before – check them out!  I’m a huge fan of music and love books written about singers and songwriters so this book really appealed to me.

The book was about two young people that met in high school and after many missed chances finds the love in each other that had been right in front of the all along.  Sometimes you’ve got to make all the wrong choices before you make the right one and that’s what I think this book was about. The idea behind the book was good but for most of the story the characters both seemed stuck.

This was one of those books that jump from current to high school and back so you have to pay attention.  This isn’t my favorite format but it was clearly marked so you knew what time frame you were in.  There were a few things that stood out in the timelines that didn’t quite add up and it seemed to switch from third person to first person which was rather frustrating.

I liked the book and read it in a few hours.  The cover was really nicely done.  The book is available for pre-order on Amazon and is available June 4, 2013.

Daniel and Casey were an unlikely couple back in high school when they came together to write music for a school event. Struggling against their differences, they dated during college, but their relationship never seemed quite right. Yet despite their personal conflict, as songwriters they had undeniable chemistry—and several hit songs. Eventually they went their own ways, both trying to make it in the music world and find true love.

Years later, both Daniel and Casey are at rock bottom, still trying to find success. But when they connect again as old friends, they realize that what they needed was right in front of them all along: each other.

From Thompson Square, a married twosome who knows a little something about what it’s like to overcome years of struggle in the music business and find love, Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not? is a charming and humorous love story about coming of age, knowing where you belong, and finding the perfect person to share life with.

One More Kiss by Mary Blayney

Between now and my last breath, I hope I can become the kind of person you could love, that I can someday earn the same respect from you that you have for your father, the same friendship you feel for Roger Tremaine, and for the same love for me that I have for you.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a review at NetGalley.

This was a fun book.  Forty-one chapters it was a decent sized book.  It took me about 2 days to finish. I know historical romances aren’t normally fun but this one was pretty fun.  I’ve read a lot of historical romances and this one was really different from any that I’ve read before.  So that rated it definite points right there.

This title will be available April 30, 2013.  If you like historical romances you won’t be disappointed with this one.

Like his eyes, she thought, and could not decide whether to abandon her new perfume or bathe in it.

Mary Blayney, the acclaimed author of Courtesan’s Kiss, returns to the Pennistan family with this new historical romance—the delectable story of a free-spirited beauty with no interest in marriage who gets more than she bargained for when a seductive kiss leads to the possibility of love.

Dispatched by their ambitious father to snag a titled husband, Beatrice Brent and her twin sister, Cecilia, attend a house party with an array of eligible gentlemen. Defiantly ignoring her father’s wishes, Beatrice flirts shamelessly with Lord Jessup Pennistan, a gamer with scandal in his past—and the one man her father has warned her against. But when flirting goes too far, Beatrice suddenly finds herself engaged and, worse, estranged from her family. Though convinced that her fiancé’s wicked ways will bring nothing but heartache, Beatrice is powerless against Jess’s masterful seduction and the anticipated delights of the marriage bed.

A gambling man who has lost more than his family is willing to forgive him for, Jess quickly realizes that compromising Beatrice was the best mistake he ever made. But to keep her he must right the wrongs of the past, reclaim his lost fortunes, and place the boldest wager of his life. For now he has everything to win . . . and everything to lose.

Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

Sigh.  Finally a book about a bad girl instead of a bad boy.  Don’t get me wrong bad boys are my favorites but this was another nice change of pace.

Ellie, Eden, whatever in the hell her name was was a con artist, scammer, and bad, bad, girl.  After a scam gone wrong she finds herself back home.  Well at least what was her home for a while in high school.  Camden McQueen was such a geek in high school but he was her only friend for most of it – and double damn look at him now all geekyness is gone.  Ride along with Ellie and Camden as they deal with one hair raising experience after another.

I obviously enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.  A few holy shit moments in there – it was great.  So fun in fact that I’m eagerly waiting for the next book in the series which comes out in May 2013.  There is a prequel out now.

Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

Ask Me To Stay by Elsie K. Ackers

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ethen wonders in and out of town usually showing up for major events.  He’s back this time due to a family tragedy.  His brother Dean isn’t sure he’s up to handling Ethen taking off again.  Ethen and Dean’s childhood best friends Sam and Cal have somethings of their own going on.  Brought together again Sam and Ethen have to decide if they can make a future or step off of memory lane forever.

This was a nice and sweet story.  Really tame, not what I’d call my usual gritty story but very likable.   If you’re looking for a nice love story this one fits the bill.

From Amazon.com

When family tragedy brings bad boy Ethan Foster home, he doesn’t expect a warm welcome. In the small town of Hinterdown reputation is everything – and Ethan’s was ruined long ago. And Ethan is hiding a secret that will have repercussions for his whole family. Will the townspeople ever forgive him? More importantly, will those he loves the most find it in their hearts to take him back?
