Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

Sigh.  Finally a book about a bad girl instead of a bad boy.  Don’t get me wrong bad boys are my favorites but this was another nice change of pace.

Ellie, Eden, whatever in the hell her name was was a con artist, scammer, and bad, bad, girl.  After a scam gone wrong she finds herself back home.  Well at least what was her home for a while in high school.  Camden McQueen was such a geek in high school but he was her only friend for most of it – and double damn look at him now all geekyness is gone.  Ride along with Ellie and Camden as they deal with one hair raising experience after another.

I obviously enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.  A few holy shit moments in there – it was great.  So fun in fact that I’m eagerly waiting for the next book in the series which comes out in May 2013.  There is a prequel out now.

Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents’ latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen. Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

Ask Me To Stay by Elsie K. Ackers

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ethen wonders in and out of town usually showing up for major events.  He’s back this time due to a family tragedy.  His brother Dean isn’t sure he’s up to handling Ethen taking off again.  Ethen and Dean’s childhood best friends Sam and Cal have somethings of their own going on.  Brought together again Sam and Ethen have to decide if they can make a future or step off of memory lane forever.

This was a nice and sweet story.  Really tame, not what I’d call my usual gritty story but very likable.   If you’re looking for a nice love story this one fits the bill.

From Amazon.com

When family tragedy brings bad boy Ethan Foster home, he doesn’t expect a warm welcome. In the small town of Hinterdown reputation is everything – and Ethan’s was ruined long ago. Nobody wants him around, particularly not Sam O’Hara, the girl he left behind. There’s still a powerful spark between them, but Sam is afraid to risk her heart again. And Ethan is hiding a secret that will have repercussions for his whole family. Will the townspeople ever forgive him? More importantly, will those he loves the most find it in their hearts to take him back?

This tender tale of love and redemption is the first in a brilliant new series by Elise K. Ackers, author of Small Town Storm and the bestselling The Man Plan.

The Prelude by KaSonndra Leigh

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect from this book.  But I really, really enjoyed it.  Both of the main characters have a lot of demons and a tragic accident years before brings them together in a way that could tear them apart.

I love the interesting combination of fashion designer and symphony director.  Definitely something different – which we know I love.  Not that I don’t love them, but this was a nice change of pace from the multi-billionaire business men and their employee story lines.

Erin’s content to just be by herself.  She’s not looking for a relationship and she quite literally stumbles into one with sexy Maestro Alek Dostov.  The supporting characters are really well written and have a variety of great personalities.  One of my favorite parts of the story is when Erin and Alek’s mother finally come to an understanding.  I won’t say more but once you read the book you’ll get what I mean.  Total “Coyote Ugly” moment right there 🙂

I read the book in a day because I didn’t want to put it down – I needed to know how it ended.  I love watching Erin come into her own and release the demons one-by-one.  I’d recommend it!

From Amazon.com

**This novel contains intense sexual situations and mature language. It is intended for an audience at 18+ years of age.**

“The Prelude is the part of a song that pulls you in, hypnotizing you with beauty.”

After finishing design school six months ago, Erin Angelo left her tragic past behind in the States and started a new life in Milan, Italy. Burying the grief, silencing her demons, and living a life without any real attachments has worked well for her so far. But when Erin secures her first real job as a budding clothing designer, her controlled world is shaken to its core by the mysteriously sexy director of the local symphony.

Alek Dostov is a man who knows what he wants and how to get it. He’s successful, hot, the son of a millionaire, and women all over the world flock to see one of his performances. For Alek, Erin represents the ultimate challenge: sexy, smart, and unaffected by his charms…or so she thinks. Just like Erin, Alek avoids attachments that leave him emotionally vulnerable. But unlike Erin, his pursuit of all things pleasurable is ruthless.

Knowing how wary they both are concerning any kind of committed relationship, Alek finds a way to pursue Erin, satisfying the intense attraction between them without sacrificing the freedom they both enjoy. Sometimes the deepest passion brings out the darkest emotions. And Erin finds herself completely unprepared for the forbidden world of the young maestro and his truths and even his secrets, as she struggles to deal with her own.

Music, passion, betrayal and forbidden love spun together in one of the most romantic cities in the world.

Surrender Your Love by JC Reed

4/5 Stars.

This was a good read from the start.  I mean really – look at that cover.  Yummy.

Can you imagine?  Crappy interview with the most gorgeous guy you’ve ever had the pleasure to lay eyes on.  Going out for drinks with your best girlfriend and then waking up with Mr. Gorgeous the next morning?  Kick his beautiful ass to the curb because you don’t do relationships only to find out less than 24 hours later he’s your new boss.  Yikes.

The hotness just gets hotter from there.  Jett and Brooke have a super hot chemistry and JC Reed writes a great story.

I’d totally recommend the book.

First I should warn you that if you are opposed to BDSM, sharing partners, and all that goes with this kind of lifestyle – this will not be a book for you.

This was a a shorter book – only 9 chapters so it didn’t take me long to read.  It was not exactly my usual book but it was decent.  I didn’t notice typo’s or grammatical errors. Since it’s not my normal genre I can’t say if it is accurate but the author seemed to know what she was talking about. If you’re into erotica and BDSM you’ll probably like it.

Elisabeth is a submissive in need of a new Dom.  Her current Dom has a crush on someone else.  So he gives her to Trevor a super rich dom.  Trouble is she likes the pain and disobeys for punishment.  When Trevor sends her for training with his best friends.. things get a bit more interesting.

This is the first book in a trilogy.  It’s due for release on Amazon.com April 8th.

Amazon.com

From a red-hot erotica writer comes an original eBook—a sensual romp across the playgrounds of the unbelievably rich and extremely sexy.

Elisabeth Anderson has seen Trevor and his friends at the infamous Manhattan BDSM club WhipperSnapper, where everyone calls them the BAD Boys, for “Billionaire Arrogant Doms.” The BAD Boys—Trevor Brooks, Marc Wilde, and Roman Chase—are aptly named; they’ve made money hand over fist due to their aggressive investing at the Brooks Wilde Chase Fund. These guys are so rich they can get away with anything, or so the rumors go.

Trevor gives Elisabeth full reign of his estate in Westchester, letting her do as she pleases. He has only two rules. Rule One: she must obey and submit to him while she is living in his house. Rule Two: always answer the blue cell phone. She’s happy to oblige, because being with Trevor makes her want to obey, to love him the way he seems to be falling for her. But Elisabeth’s never been good at being the quiet sub; she’s feisty and gets off on the punishments more than she does by pleasing Trevor.

Elizabeth can’t submit to Trevor the way he needs her to, so his friend and business partner (and fellow BAD Boy) Roman takes her in hand. But love triangles can have sharp edges…and somebody’s bound to get hurt.

Rush Me by Allison Parr

This book was pretty funny.  There were a few spots that left me shaking my head wondering why the main characters needed to do what they were doing to each other. Get your mind out of the gutter, I didn’t mean it that way.  They just did a good job of hurting each other.

Rachael was an interesting character.  A bookish girl with zero sports knowledge stumbles accidentally into a NFL players party and meets Ryan Carter, one of the most popular NFL quarterback’s.  It was not love at first sight.  It wasn’t love at second site either 🙂 It is cute how she forms a friendship with the rest of the team though.

I laughed my way through the book and read it in the same day – so I’d recommend it.  It’s available for pre-order at Amazon.com.  It doesn’t release until April 8th but definitely pick it up.

From Amazon.com

When post-grad Rachael Hamilton accidentally gate-crashes a pro-athlete party, she ends up face-to-face with Ryan Carter, the NFL’s most beloved quarterback.

While most girls would be thrilled to meet the attractive young millionaire, Rachael would rather spend time with books than at sporting events, and she has more important things to worry about than romance. Like her parents pressuring her to leave her unpaid publishing internship for law school.

But when Ryan’s rookie teammate attaches himself to Rachael, she ends up cohosting Friday-night dinners for half a dozen football players.

Over pancake brunches, charity galas and Alexander the Great, Rachael realizes all the judgments she’d made about Ryan are wrong. But how can a Midwestern Irish-Catholic jock with commitment problems and an artsy, gun-shy Jewish New Englander ever forge a partnership? Rachael must let down her barriers if she wants real love—even if that opens her up to pain that could send her back into her emotional shell forever.

Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire

“A Toast! To douche bags! And to girls that break your heart.  And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to fall in love with her.

I was so freaking excited last week when I got the email from Atria Books that I could download and begin reading my ARC of Walking Disaster.  SCORE!!!!!  I did a little dance.  Seriously.  Ask my co-worker from across the hall.  I actually danced to her office then danced back to mine.  Seriously, though I could.not.wait to read this book.  Beautiful Disaster was one of the first books I read this year and one of them that inspired me to start my blog.

When reading Beautiful Disaster, which I absolutely loved by the way, there were times when I would ponder the question, “What in the hell was Travis Maddox thinking?”  This book answers those questions for me.  It’s not new, there’s nothing more to the story, it is what it says it is, the exact same story but it’s from Travis’ point of view.  I loved how he arrived at asking her about the bet, what he was thinking when she showed up at his apartment for the first time looking like she did, and what he was thinking right before their first time.  It really was a chance to see the story from all angles.  Just getting inside his head to see what made Travis – Travis was great.  There were times when I was a bit shocked to know what he was thinking.

I was happy there was an epilogue. Nothing annoys me more than when the story ends and it just ends.  No more story just THE END.  Thank you Jamie McGuire for providing an epilogue and a decent one at that.  Looking forward to other books to come from this author.

“You know why I want you?  I didn’t know I was lost until you found me.  I didn’t know what alone was until the first night I spent without you in my bed.  You’re the one thing I’ve got right.  You’re what I’ve been waiting for, Pigeon.”

Finally, the highly anticipated follow-up to the New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster.

Can you love someone too much?

Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.

In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.
